I have same issue. The Delicate Mode is the only cycle that works. We have been washing our clothes on delicate for a couple of days while I figure out what's wrong. I removed the the timer and it looked fine. I sprayed it with contact cleaner/lubricate and reinstalled it. Problem still there. Since everything in Delicate Mode works, that seems to rule out the lid switch, agitator, motor, transmission and belts. I'm guessing something inside the timer. Unfortunately I cannot find a replacement anywhere.

I am having the same issue with my 2006 top loading me tag model number MAVT446AWW.
Only the delicate cycle “works”.
It’s sort of agitates I don’t think it agitates all that great and I don’t think it rinses the clothes all that well. Although it fills with water and what not

I have an older Maytag top load washing machine with some odd problems and I'm not sure how to diagnose what's wrong. I've spent a few days searching forums and Google for clues and I just keep going in circles.

My washer fills up without issue, the timer moves correctly, clicking periodically as it tries to initiate spins, rinses, etc. However, nothing happens in the tub. The motor isn't spinning the tub, there's no agitation, no rinsing, no draining. The timer makes its way to off and buzzes, washing machine still full of water. That's pretty straight-forward, however, when I set the dial to the Delicates Spin cycle, it promptly drains and spins the water out. Quick cycle, regular cycle, and permanent press cycle do nothing but fill and sit but Delicates will fill, sit, and drain at the end.

The timer moving through the motions makes me think it's probably okay. The Delicates spin cycle makes me think the motor, clutch, and belts are okay. I don't know where that leaves me though, any and all thoughts are welcome! I'm baffled.
