My Whirlpool fridge model GD5RHAXSQ01 is giving me fits.

After a routine water filter change. the fridge made knocking noise when the new filter was slammed into the filter holder. The water then would not flow to the in-door dispenser or the ice maker. I first replaced the filter again, thinking I might have a defective filter. When that didn't solve anything, I also replaced the water inlet valves located in the rear of the fridge. But the problem persisted.
While troubleshooting, I have noted that, if I pop the filter out of its holder, water flows freely from the door dispenser and the ice maker works perfectly.

Any ideas, advice or previous experiences?
