I have a whirlpool top load washing machine that is not going through the "wash" cycle. It will fill with water then drain and the lid doesn't lock (I can hear the click when it locks). No agitation or spinning. I've Googled all over the place & can't find the answer. I noticed the latch on the the lid lock strike is loose. It's only a year and half old. Could my problem be that lid lock stike? Not sure how loosely the latch(the part that fits into the base to lock it) is suppose to be, if at all. Can this part be why it won't go through the wash cycle or spin? Just wanted to check on this before I spend a ton of money fixing things that didn't need to be fixed.

Thank you!!!
