If I understand your complaint you are saying that the timer does not advance on its own but if your turn it manually the washer works. If this is the case you need to replace the timer, here is the part you might need.

Do not be confused by the Whirlpool part name, as they now build and provide parts for Maytag.

Sensor or indicator doesn't appear to be functioning. Dial can be manually moved to rinse and then spin, but won't do so on its own. Thank you!
