The wear of a belt will not cause the problem you describe. If the drum is rubbing on the support or the fan housing the front guides or bearings are worn out . These are intended to hold the drum up and when they wear out or get damaged the drum will scrape and usually cause a squealing or screeching sound. They can be replaced on most dryers but may have to be glued in place.

My dryer works great. I am getting a noise when it runs. It looks like the drum is rubbing on the metal housing of the fan below in the front of the dryer. There is very little clearance. I am thinking the belt has stretched & a new belt will hold the drum higher & give more clearance between the drum & housing. Sound right?
