These models are almost impossible to diagnose, even for Whirlpool trained tech who usually just end up replacing parts until they get it to work.

If the machine otherwise runs fine I would just let it be. Trying to fix it may or may not succeed, the parts are not inexpensive and you could mess it up further by taking it apart. Just remember to get all the clothes in you want so you don't have to add a garment.
