The compactor probably got stuck because the stops are worn. If the ram has not fully retracted the door will not open. When the stops get worn the ram gets jammed in the can and needs to be manually raised. You can do this by removing the bottom panel and removing the chain and turning the gears to raise it. You may need a ratchet for this.

From there once the ram has been removed the plastic stops will slide out and can be replaced.

I used my compactor last night and it is making a noise like the thing is trying to compact. It won't come back up, we can not open the door. This is under our counter but can be pulled out. Please help, love my compactor.
