I sure would not think so, call the manufacture hotline. I have replaced may units but never touched this area unless I needed to dislodge something stuck in the unit.

Hey all - old disposal died so I bought a Insinkerator Evolution Select 5/8 HP from Home Depot.

I removed the old unit which looks like it is original to the house (built in 1986).

The old unit was hard wired but the connections are simple: white wire, black wire and ground wire. I wired the new unit up neatly and it turns on and works fine. Wow is it quiet compared to the old one.

The issue is, the unit gets hot - HOT. On the bottom of the unit, there is a whole to insert an Allen wrench - this area gets so hot it will burn you if you touch it.

Is this normal? Should the unit be getting this hot?
