Here are your parts
Parts for Amana LEM447L / P1176702W L - AppliancePartsPros.com

I cannot find any tech info on this unit so the following is just how most units are wired.

The motor has 2 centrifugal switches on it.
They close when the motor gets close to operating speed.

One of them is for the heating coil. This ensures that the heater does not come on till there is air flow.

The other has 2 functions.
It disconnects the start winding in the motor. If left on when running this would cause the motor to overheat.
The other side of the switch closes, this provides a parallel circuit path around the start switch. It is what lets you release the start switch and the motor keeps running.

If when you hold the start switch you also do not have heat, it could be the mechanism in the motor that activates the switches. Could be it is just clogged solid with lint.

If you have heat then it could be a bad connection at the switches or the switch itself is toast.

The switches are not a separate part so you have to replace the motor.
THIS FORUM IS DEAD!!!!!!!

Is unit gas or electirc? Also check your voltage going to the unit at the plug 120v for gas or 240v for electric and make sure to check to neutral and to ground and line to line.

Anyone know why the dryer starts when button is pushed but stops when button released. Purchased and installed new timer (assumption) and still the same problem. ????
