Sounds like the defrost thermostat's contacts are welded together. So after all the ice was defrosted off the evaporator coils instead of the thermostat opening and shutting off the heater, it kept the heater on.
I would check the defrost thermostat. It should be 0 ohms when frozen but infinite ohms (open) at room temperature,
Also if it is deformed/bulged replace it even if it does measure OK.
Did the unit go back to normal (coll down) or is it still not working?

evaporator iced up and the heater tested good but the the thermostat for it didnt wasnt good replaced and worked for litle over a month fine then when was like and oven in the fridge when got home one day the milk spoiled popped cap off

I do not know what part you are referring to when you say "defrost control thermostat thing". Which section is too warm? When you say hot do you mean above ambient room temperature? What is on and what is not re: lights, fans, compressor etc.? Is the compressor running. You can usually hear it but you should also be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm? Is it running all the time or is it cycling on/off?

amana model number: SZDE25MBW Serial Number: P1121202WW side by side froze up and i replaced the defrost control thermo stat thing and it worked for little over a month and now came home to a hot frig and food bad
