Parts for Maytag PYET444AYW Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comDoes this unit have a self resetting thermostat or fuse?
If not I assume the motor is the likely culprit?
No there is nothing like that in the start circuit except for the thermal protect in the motor. Your assumption is correct.
It could be that the motor is on it's last legs or there may be another cause for the motor overheating.
Try rotating the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. If not perhaps there is a problem with the drum supports etc. that is putting too much drag on the moor causing it to overheat. You may want to try this on a couple other units just to get a feel for it.
TTry running the unit in a no heat cycle. If the unit does not show your problem, it could be that hot air is blowing back onto the motor causing it to overheat. Clean your vent system and the blower wheel.
Check the seals in the unit.
Also clean/check the motor could be it is clogged solid with lint.
