A model number may be helpful.

Check to see if the compressor is running. As I said you can usually hear it and you should be able to feel it vibrating.

If it is not running check for 120 volts across it.
If there is no volts then it is probably a control thermostat problem.

If there is voltage then it could be a start device problem or a bad compressor.

Following are good sites on how to check these.

It doesn't make any sound. I don't remember it ever really making any compressor sounds before, but again, it was in the basement so I don't see/hear it often. Nothing made any noise when I plugged it back in initially.

Is the compressor running?
You can usually hear it but should also be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm.

If it is running continuously but not cooling correctly then it is probably a sealed system problem and not worth fixing.

7 cu ft chest freezer about 20 yrs old, in basement. Has been subjected to about a foot of water on 2-3 occasions, this time may have been the final nail. It quit, but now feels like it is trying to cool, but not freeze. My basic question is should I even bother? If it is just the compressor I may get away cheap, but I'm thinking there would be a lot more to be replaced. Thanks for any advice.
