denman, I pulled the range out today and removed the rear cover to find the wire to the lower element burnt off at the junction block where the power comes in. fixed that, did a minor work around the junction block and viola we have oven. Thanks Dean

If this is just an oven, it does sound like you have a short or a bad connection somewhere re: the broil element sounds like it is only getting 120 volts when it is turned on.

I have not pulled it out yet but the broiler warms a bit when the oven is on but nothing by itself.

Sorry, I could not find any info using this Model Number. I was able to find out that a 629 is actually a JennAir but that is about it. The following is just general info. Check to ensure that the broil (upper) element works. Some units have a thermal cutout for the elements usually attached to the back of the oven exterior. If it has one check that it is closed (0 ohms) If you set the unit to a low temp will it preheat to that temp using the broil element? This will at least tell you that the oven sensor is probably OK. Many JennAir's have a relay board which is controlled by the control board, perhaps the relay for the oven element is shot. Other units have the control relays on the control board. I just received and installed the new lower oven element in a Kenmore Mod# 13061949UY oven and it does not heat. I connected a test light from wire to wire with the element disconnected and the test light does not light so it seems to not be the element but I don't know where to go from here.
