Mkaminski - I have an older Kitchenaid compactor and it does the same thing. Every once in a while it will decide to stay down and solid pack. Another problem - unless I hold the on/off switch the plunger will stop; if I hold the switch it works fine but as soon as I let off the plunger stops. Do you also have this problem? I replaced the on/off switch but it did not help. I am wondering if I need to replace the solid pack switch too. I just replaced the inside switch that has a flap (the base plate pushes a flap which works a button on the switch when it reaches the top so it knows where to stop) so that is new and I still have the problem.

Gene, I changed the switch and solid pack worked for a day, then stopped again. What else could be the problem? Mike

Gene, Thanks...I thought it might be the switch. Your reply was very helpful. Mike

Most likely the problem is a bad switch. You can check it for continuity.

- The part number for the switch is AP3180528

Talk to the APP team regarding the part ETA.

The "solid pack" function on this 2 year old compactor recently stopped working. When the "solid pack" switch is in the "on" position, the ram doesn't stop in the down position, but cycles back up. What could be causing this?
