A worn thrust bearing can affect the spin; But since you said it makes a grinding noise also when it agitates, I would suspect the drain pump bearing. You can test this by removing the belt and manually turning the pump pulley by hand.

Washer just started making a grinding noise when agitating and spin cycles. I assume it's either the spin or thrust bearing or possibly both. Can you shed some light?
