Proper thermostat hookup - the brown wire coming out of the back of the unit should be plugged into which of the 2 brown & brown connectors? If #1 is the connector that has 1 brown wire going directly to the test plug and the other brown wire going to #2 brown/brown connector. #2 connector has 1 brown wire going to #1 connector with 2nd brown wire going directly to thermostat.

I have an Amana side-by-side refrigerator (Model SQD26VL) that is not freezing or cooling. Had same problem a couple years ago. Sears Repair changed thermostat (inside freezer) and it worked better. Began having problem again recently so I replaced thermosat but no luck. The compressor and compressor fan run and freezer coils frost up (first couple of top coils only) and the refrigerator stays cool enough to keep food from spoiling. Can't use freezer at all.

The fan above the freezer coils doesn't run. I'm not sure I have the thermostat hooked up correctly. Does the brown wire coming out of the thermostat go to the fan or the black lead? Or does it matter?

I don't have a tester to see if the fan is bad. Can I take old thermostat harness and cut out the thermostat then hook up fan to see if it works?
