Yes, always a good idea when working on a unit.

Shut the line off then unscrew the fitting at the water valve. Do this slowly.
Let it drip/drain into a shallow pan which you can empty. Once the pan is full you can finger tighten the fitting so you can empty the pan. Will minimize the amount of water you will have to mop up.

I usually do a couple wraps of PTFE thread tape on the treads.

Ok I'm pretty sure its a water level problem, so that indicates the intake valve, or the float? Is there a way to check the float to see that its functioning properly after you take the cover off? Or should I just buy both parts and replace them both?

Cannot say if you are opening it at the right time or not, but is is possible that the valve is not opening fully all the time.

101 is the only heater in the unit.

Thanks I've run a couple test cycles and I have seen the water level up to the right level now, but at other times it seems low, is that possible or am I just not opening it at the right time?
I've never felt the water where it seemed very hot inside the unit, is there a different heating component to the unit other than the element assembly (part 101?) because that seems hot and there certainly is a ton of steam when you open it later in the cleaning cycle.
Also wondering when you speak of the water valve is that part 744 and where is it located? It's not really clear on the schematic its it underneath the lower front panel?
I certainly could see the sump pump being clogged or having debris, that could cause this? I know there has been broken glass in the unit.

The easiest one to check is the fill valve. Just add a couple quarts of hot water to the unit after each fill during a cycle. Be careful that you do not overfill the unit. If it now runs OK odds are it is the fill valve either the valve itself or the screen filter on it's input side. Does not hurt to remove the sump cover and check it for debris and if there is anything wrapped around the chopper. Be careful as there is often broken glass in the sump. [COLOR="DarkRed"] Having never worked on a dishwasher other than installing it, is this something I should tackle myself?[/COLOR] Cannot see why not if you have some mechanical ability. There are always folks on this forum to help you through the repair.

I have a GE Triton (GSD5200G00WW) that over the past couple months has started leaving a bit of soap first still on the door, now it seems little if any soap is actually being used, the dispenser is still full. Looking around online for some answers, I've run my hot water prior to running and it is piping hot (haven't check with therm yet), and tried looking in the unit during the cleaning cycle to check water levels. It doesn't seem to fill to just below the heating element I have maybe 1/2" of water when I've checked, when should I be opening the door to see the maximum fill level? I've also looked at the arms and didn't see any debris clogging them.
For example the wife ran a cycle with the soap dispenser full, I just ran it with the latch open to test and it still was full of soap after 2 full runs.
Does this sound like a fill valve, clogged filter, pump?
Having never worked on a dishwasher other than installing it, is this something I should tackle myself?
