Bought the multimeter for continuiity checks...
compressor checks good either side of the start device check good (then it should be good right?) Fan motor checks bad Wires between compressor and fan check good
Due to a lot of posts blaming the start device I had already ordered one online. Guess that was a waste.
I'm still wondering if the fridge is stuck in defrost cycle (it went out right before I left the house during the holidays) but most of the checks involving leaving it on and I'm past that now.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Update: opened up the front kickplate/cover and saw the spaces between the coils stuff with dust. Coils now clean.
After leaving the fridge unplugged for a couple of hours I plugged it in (and confirmed it was on with cool temp settings) and only hear a small click which doesn't sound like it is anywhere near the compressor or fan. With my hand on the compressor I cannot feel/hear any vibration/hum.
Wondering if I had an overheat problem and what part failed! Guess I might have to go an get a multimeter.
Thoughts?

Refrigerator started showing problems when on the warmest setting items on the refrigerator side were still freezing. Months later both sides quit cooling/freezing. All the lights (displays and bulbs) still work and water still flows but there is no cooling.
I read a post about the start device possibly being bad if it rattles when shaken. I removed it and shook it. Something inside is making a noise but it doesn't sound necessarily broken.
Any ideas? I don't have a ohm meter.
