ok if it wont fill up can only be one of two things either you have a bad water valve or a bad timer it wont wash until it is full of water on the flip side it cant get water unless the valve is getting power from the timer if possible ohm out the water valve if its good id say the timer is your culprit

won't do anything at all except spin cycle - no fill, no agitate. If set to soak cycle, the little red light comes on, otherwise all is quiet. Belts OK, pulleys seem OK to rotate in both directions.

first off if it were a bad switch you wouldnt be able to spin the water out my guess without being able to check with meter would be a timer we can eliminate the motor because it spins does it fill with water and just hum or is it dead on all wash cycles

Have an older (but working fine 'til now) Maytag Top Load washer. It just quit mid-cycle. I turned the dial and got it to spin and empty the water from the tub, but it won't do anything else. Suspect it may be a lid switch? The fuse in the switch assembly is OK, but how do I test the switch? Tried using my digital meter, but regardless of which 2 terminals I contact, cannot get the meter to register a change with the lid up or down. Is this indicative of a bad switch?
