Get someone to help you and have them press the start switch while you depress the door switch and manually turn the drum. If it starts up you have the classic symptoms of a bad motor.

When I go to set the timer on the dryer, there is a humming noise and nothing happens. Usually I can set the timer and then use the starter switch. Will replacing the timer solve the problem or is there more to what could be causing it not to run?
