My Roper top-loader RTW4440VQ1 filled, started to agitate then just died somewhere mid-cycle. I'm thinking the main timer dial because it no longer ratchets firmly. It just turns smoothly with the faintest clicks.

Or maybe the lid switch because I have the bad habit of letting it just fall closed. However it still has a firm click.

Also, is the top half of the agitator supposed to agitate during the wash cycle? Mine just spins freely and really doesn't move clothes at the top of the load.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.
