If the washer fills to the correct level and stops filling then it sounds like the timer may be your problem. Unfortunately it is no longer available new. So you may be able to search for part # 208120 add the word maytag to your search for better results.

The washer will fill and the timer will not advance and it will not agitate. It will spin and drain and the timer will advance.
