Thank you - and you don't know how dumb I feel for not thinking of that. We have taken drain hose out of stand pipe and machine pumps out perfectly into the sink. We are leaving new pump on as it is a bit of a job and really didn't cost that much. We put drain cleaner down stand pipe and will snake it tomorrow. This is a great help for us do-it-yourselfers and I thank you.

If the motor is turning and the pump is turning then the water must be leaving the machine. That it is not suggests a blockage in your drain pipe. To check, put the drain hose in the laundry sink next to the washer (hopefully you do have one) and see if that causes the machine to empty.

We put a new pump on and it still won't pump out the water. All sounds normal as far as timer, motor sounds, etc. We are truly baffled?? Thank you.

This is a direct driver washer. One shaft of the motor goes into the transmission, the other into the pump. The pump must be pumping out when the machine is spinning, unless the pump has a problem. Take off the cabinet, by-pass the lid switch and see if you can tell what is happening when it has water in it and is trying to spin.

Our Whirlpool washer LA8800XS just stopped draining in mid-cycle. Load was dripping wet and tub half full of water (on full load). We have taken all hoses off and made sure they were clear and also checked the standpipe - also took off the pump and checked it for obstructions. We have found none. Motor sounds fine, agitates well, and will spin when I bailed out the water so it didn't have a load of water in it. Pump impeller seems free to us. We are at a loss as to what the problem is???
