I sprayed WD 40 on shaft, no change. The belt is in really bad shape, could it cause this noise? thx.

Most likely it is going to be either your drain pump may have something in it causing it to screech, or the pulley for the belt, if it is the pulley squirt some oil on the shaft and see if the noise goes away

I have a top loading amana model #LWA50AW. Makes loud screeching noise while agitating, spinning, and emptying water. Sound does not occur during water filling. I removed front panel, sounds like it coming from pump or motor right in the front. Leaning towards the pump. I grabbed the belt and can turn it in either direction.

Any advice on how to check further? I also noticed the belt has lots of separations in it all the way to the outter strap, so I will have to figure out how to replace it too. Thanks.
