Usually, when this symptom happens it points to the Lower motor control board. I would unplug machine and inspect this board for any burnt components or a blown 10 amp fuse which is soldered to the board. In your top console there should be a folded up paper which has an electrical diagram and it also has a drive motor diagnostice test you can run where the tub should rotate at 50 rpm. I would try this test. Some motors will make a growling sound when the motor control board is failing.

Maytag now has the Motor Conversion Kit, part# 12002039, which includes a new redesigned motor and the redesigned motor control board since there were relaibility issues with the original motor / motor control board. It takes about an hour to install the Motor Conversion Kit.

In addition, the MAH4000 has the door latch wax motor issue. If you have the original one in there still it could be failing and causing wierd things to happen. See Neptune Help for a video on how to inspect your wax motor. If you have the old design with the brownish color actuator pin... stop using machine until you replace it.

Also, the belt coming off can cause the shutdown. Have you checked the belt in the rear? Bad bearings can cause the belt to come off. Have you noticed your machine getting louder in the spin cycle? Usually, the machine will sound like a jet taking off. If so, stop using machine until you check out Neptune Bearing. You can get the bearings and seal kit along with a special tool kit rental.

I hope this helps.
