It sounds like it’s a possibility the brakes are not working. Take the front off the washer and watch it during the wash cycle. If during the wash cycle the spin basket (inter tub) spins the brakes have failed. Also if the washer is spinning at full speed and you open the lid and the spin basket doesn’t stop quickly the brakes are bad.

If the brakes are not the problem it may be running to much water in the tub causing it to overflow. Also if there is a lot of suds in the tub water can leak out of the overflow in this case either cut down on the detergent or change detergent brands.
