One afternoon, my daughter reached for an ice cream sandwich and was mush...not water, but not frozen. We looked at the temps provided in fridge door, and fridge was 36 and freezer 27. I assumed someone ignored an alarm beep and we lost temp. But 2 days later, same problem. Closing doors overnight hand fridge to 33 but freezer never went below 30. We unplugged, vacuumed under, defrosted freezer, and replaced defrost heater. 24 hours later, fridge running 3 degrees over our setting and freezer maxing around 27 but climbed 3 degrees if door opened 10 seconds with overnight to recover to around 27 as lowest temp. We paid at that time $100 to have a prof look. He was on the speaker phone with home base the entire 8 min he looked behind fridge. I heard him say he didn't see anything wrong and that not many homes had professional series so he equated to computers with lg or samsung without the computer. He told me then at least $800 bc I must have a freon leak, but would need to also replace compressor for another $500 but I would sign a waiver that they told me this may not fix the problem bc I was asking them to fix a fridge over 10 yrs old.
Besides the fact I think that I was ripped off for my diagnosis visit, does anyone know what we can ck tofix this 1st??? I mean,a freon leak would not be overnight. The compressor does not run all of the time. Where can I go for light work asap?
