I checked the compressor and it seemed to be fine so I took the evaporator cover off and got the fan to move freely - it seemed to be sticking. After putting everything back together. The fan began to work and the unit seemd to be fine. After the freezer and refrig cooled I turned on the ice maker and it worked. Thanks for all the assistance in this.

One final sympton. I unplugged the unit and waited for about 30 seconds. When I plugged the unit back in after a few seconds I heard a click near the compressor, but nothing else happened. I repeated the steps with the same result.

See the attachment for your tech sheet/wiring diagram.

You should be able to feel the compressor vibrating to confirm it is running.

Remove the cover in the freezer so you can inspect the coils.
The compressor has to have run a couple hours. If you do it shortly after a defrost cycle there will probably be no frost.

Check the frost patten on the evaporator coils. If it is fairly even then the fan may be your only problem.

If there is just frost in one area usually where the freon enters the coils then you are probably low on freon.
Also if there is no frost, there is a sealed system problem.
Both of these will be an expensive repair as you need a pro and there is no guarantee that they will be able to fix it.
Often it makes more sense to put those dollars towards a new unit.

Here is a good link on basic fridge re[pair info.
Check out #20. It has example pictures of low freon evaporator coils plus additional info.

The evap fan doesn't appear to be working. Also the compressor is warm but the coil is not cold or warm.

Same question "Is the evaporator/freezer fan running? "

I would not worry right now about the fresh food section. It gets all it's cooling from the freezer so ir the freezer is screwed up so will be the fresh food.

The fan motor is running - I did not check the airflow fan - however I didn't notice any cold air flowing into refrig.

The above seems to indicate that they are cold at the bottom, is this true?

You said the fan is running but which fan?

Is the evaporator/freezer fan running? It is required for efficient cooling and to circulate the air in the unit.
