I am not an expert but had the same thing happen. It sounds like you have a short where the element is touching the metal frame to the appliance. Where the ends of the element go through the frame and connect to the back should be some sort of insulator, sometimes ceramic. Look closely for some type of burn, if you say a blue spark there should be a burn probably at the end of the element. Hope this helps/
