I do not think the problem is a bad transformer. When the transformer got shorted it's usually produced a lot of smoke. Most likely the problem is a shorted capacitor.
Good luck. Gene.

it has to be either the Capcitor or the transformer. I will check the Capacitoer(after discharging) for short then the Transformer for ground. Wish me luck.

Did you check the capacitor? Most likely it's shorted.

 I replaced the Magnatron but I have the same problem. Soon as I put power on I hear a noise and the main fuse blows. What else could be wrong?

saibal I'm not too familiar with this model. I may have worked on it, but very long time ago, and unfortunately I do not remember how the antenna is supposed to be mounted. Gene.

Thank you Gene. The reason I asked the question was I did not see any thing to which the antenna connects to. There is a shaft going into the cavity from the megatron and then inside the cavity in a circular cutout the antenna was sitting. There was a cover on top. When I opened the cover (don't know why I did!!!) the antenna came out. Please tell me the reassembly steps for the antene. Sorry to bother you. Regards

What does the Antena do? Thanks for the help

I never tried it and I never heard someone else did. You can try, looks like it's nothing to loose. The antenna has to be very well balanced. If not it'll never work properly. Let me know how it goes.
Good luck.
Gene.
