I had same problem. unscrewed two screws holding DW to counter, pulled it out and found broken door spring link(more likely the problem as the spring is pretty heavy duty). A new one cost less than $7 at Maytag store and it took less than two minutes to install it. Maytag store said it would have been about $100 to come out and do it on a service call. Save yourself the time and money -- Gene is right, it was quite simple.

The diswasher door suddenly became heavy. We continued using it, just lowering it manually rathering than letting it fall. Now it falls below the horizontal line and we have difficulty pulling out the lower rack. Please advise whether this can be repaired by inexperienced people, and, if not, is it worth it to bring in a Maytag repair person.
Thanks!
