Gosh, not being there to hear it about all we can do is suggest you take off the front by inserting a screw driver in the gap between the top and the front near the edges to release the clips that hold the toop and and flip it up. You can now remove the screws that hold the front on, and begin listening to it to see if you can pinpoint the source of the noise.
It could well be in the brake assembly in which case your best action may be to live with it until you need to replace it. See if this service manual will help. http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16023083.pdf
