Default Washer motor hums, but won't drain, agitate or spin
Model Number: LSC8244BQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

My washer suddenly stopped working. It still fills with water, but the motor doesn't work. It hums when I close the lid, so I don't think the lid switch is the problem. I removed the motor and visually inspected it: I don't see any burns or broken wiring. Even when the motor is disconnected from the agitator and the pump, it won't spin and only hums.

What else can I check? I don't want to shell out $130 for a new motor just to find that wasn't really the problem.

You may have a bad pin on the motor connector, just push them in further.
If ok you will need a meter to check out timer and motor wiring.

Thanks for the reply. I checked and the pins are all connected.

I found a diagram for testing the motors wiring here Direct drive washer motor repair information, how to test a direct drive motor with a meter Kenmore, Whirlpool, Inglis. And it checks out ok except for test E (white and white/black wires) with was infinity instead of 0.

However, I think I found the culprit. I checked the timer and one of the contacts is burnt like in this picture http://www.applianceaid.com/newpics/burnttimer2.JPG
