i have a small whirlpool 2 speed direct drive washer from 2007. tried to wash something big and it just popped when it went to spin and could see some sparks underneath. replaced the capacitor and the motor and it still just hums. this is with the motor uninstalled and only plugged in. is there something else?

If both the capacitor and motor are new, then the problem is likely in the connection to the motor or the wiring. Check them out.
If you need more info please post a full model number and we may be able to give you more information.

i didnt see anything wrong with the wiring but im gonna get a multimeter to make sure im getting full power to the motor/plug. The capacitor i got was said to be new off a scratch and dinged washer. maybe its no good? how can i tell if its bad? its a small whirlpool stacked washer from 2007 only numbers i could find are 8577919. The original motor number is 3951550. With the original motor plugged i can spin it and it keeps spinning tho im not sure if its near enough power as it should be and the new motor wont turn at all when spun by hand.

Well your new motor should turn easily, so see if you can get a replacement from the folks who sold it to you. Capacitors do fail, but it is pretty rare. particularly with two, so I doubt if that is your problem.
Unfortunately without a model number we are working blind here, so other than getting another replacement motor and checking the wiring I don't think there is much else I can say.

sorry what i meant is with the power on the original motor spins itself when jumped while the new one doesnt. It spins freely otherwise. kinda stumps me tho i woulda just thought maybe the motor fried since the washer just overloaded but maybe something else. ill look for some other part numbers

There are no fuses but it is a reasonable possibility your start switch is fried, although why it would work with one motor and not another is a negative point for that diagnosis. I suggest you try this part, and if you buy it from this site you can return it if it does not fix things and you adhere to the requirements for returns. See the returns policy. the new motor looks to have a new start switch on it? both motors hum when plugged in but the old one checks out bad with a multimeter. i can hear the timer humming idk what else it could be

yes it turned out to be a burnt wire. after staring at it for two months i finally noticed it lol. thanks for your help
