The washer is old, but it was in storage for a few years. I've been using it for about 4 years since. Just the other day, it stopped spinning or agitating. It does still pump. I can turn the basket and agitator manually. I took off the front and examined it. The pulleys and belt are good and tight. So I watched it while it tried to run. During the spin cycle, the inner part of the clutch spins and spins, but it never seems to engage the outer part, so therefore not the pulley. Is this a bad clutch?

Check to see if the clutch retaining clip fell off, if ok, take belt off and see if the tranny pulley will tun in both directions.

I appreciate your quick reply, richappy. The clip is still present and the tranny pulley spins both ways.

Unless you suggest something else, I am planning to pull off the clutch and examine it for worn shoes or faulty extending mechanisms.

The cheapest price I can find for a new clutch is $106 (and is here at this site). All the others are $150 or more. But after doing some online digging, I can find the individual parts for the clutch on ********. A new pair of clutch shoes would run me $15 with shipping. I can get a new clutch clip locally for about $6. If you can't tell, I'm about as cheap as they come. I'm a Dave Ramsey fan.

You probably have rusted brake shoes. Spray some wd-40 on them and pry them loose with a small screwdriver.

That was it. Cleaned up and good to go. No new parts needed. Thanks for the help richappy! It's good to have clean clothes.

Glad to see you fixed it without spending an exorbitant sum for the clutch. I always strive to save money for my customers too.
