After the washer finished washing and was about to spin there was a loud hum that seemed to come from the timer. Then it would not do anything. I opened the cabinet and the motor seemed to be putting off alot of heat. How do you check for a bad motor? The timer still seems to work as it will allow water to enter the tub. (I did empty the washer of clothes and water first)

Tilt the washer back. Remove the belt and see if the washer will work with no load. Post the results.
