Hello. I have a GE top load washer that is 13 yrs old. The model no. is WPSQ3120T6WW. After the wash & spin cycles, the agitator does not stop abruptly, but comes to a stop very gradually. It also does so when lifting the top during a wash as the safety button does not force the agitator to a sudden stop. The washer works fine otherwise. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Probably a sign that some internal parts of your transmission/brake assembly are failing.

You should plan on replacing the machine at this time if this appears to be a safety issue, otherwise you can keep using it until it fails completely, and at that time you can plan on replacing the machine.
