My 6 yr old Maytag Legacy washer has developed a loud growling noise during the spin cycle  . I've taken the belt off the drive motor and just run the motor to confirm that is not the problem (no noise with just motor running). So, it appears it is the lower bearing.

Is this worth fixing? I understand that it is a big job, and I was wondering what a service call to do this would run?

Also, I have called my local "Authorized Maytag" service provider and he basically said that he doesn't have time to repair something this large and recommended we buy a new one.

Jonny,

Here is the Technical Bulletin with all instructions.

This Triple Lip seal and bearing kit requires a few special tools (page 2) which are pretty expensive.
