I have a washing machine that when it goes to spin cycle is sounds as if something is rubbing and when it stops spinning it stops with a with a sudden violent jerk, and a high pitch screech that almost moves the washer a couple of inches.

The first place I would look is the brakes, but this is dangerous because they are under 200 lbs of spring pressure and you need special tools to get into it. Here is the service manual if you want to try, but be very careful.
