I have a Whirlpool Gold top loading washer, model number GSQ9631LWO, serial number CM3302065. It's about 8 years old. The machine seemed to be working normally until it got to the spin cycle. Then there was a rather loud CLACK, CLACK, CLACK sound. After fiddling with it for a moment I grabbed a flashlight and looked under the machine to find quite a bit of oil on the ground with some drops hanging off the transmission. I'm guessing I need a new one. Any advice? Is it even worth trying to repair at 8 years old? Thanks for any help,

I just went through something similair myself with a whirlpool, Loud noise sounded like something clunking in the washer during spin cycle. I found getting the transmission off and apart fairly easy, Once inside it there was one gear torn up pretty badly (plastic gear). In the process of replacing it now! Not a cheap gear tough for mine, SOmething like 60 bucks...

Prior to taking apart the tranny I found no sure test to tell what it was other then trying to turn it by hand and feeling the rough spot in it.
