Can you just replace the brakes on a washer? What would the brakes cost? I replaced the clutch thinking the slipping was the cause. Make a clunk...clunk...clunk...and won't spin up to speed. Could it be the transmission slipping? I looked at the sticky and it clear as mud. Anyone sell cheap really good videos for this repair?

I would check out the drive block first, which you can access with a special spanner wrench to take off the tub. This is the part Part number: AP2905773

Any special thing to look for when checking the drive block. Never dug this deep into a washer. Clutch is the most involved job I've done.

Do you know what the spanner wrench looks like. The one on this site didn't have a picture and would want to get on locally. Can't go without a washer for to long.

When you took off the agitator you saw a funny shaped nut on top of the shaft, that is the wrench you need. It is a special wrench and should be available at your repair parts store.
Look for the drive block to be loose of slipped.
