Your machine is at or near the 20 year old mark, and while I really like these models, at that age I think the best strategy is to live with it as is or to replace it. Your problem can be the timer or transmission or wiring, but it is difficult to diagnose with certainty. Given the cost of parts, and some are no longer available, a new machine is by far the better option.
