Model Number: lsb6300lw1 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
My whirlpool spin cycle is being tempermental. It will work sometimes and sometimes it won't. I have taken the casing off and tested the switch electrically and manually and seems to work just fine. I put the case back on because i thought things fixed itself. We had a good drain cycle then we didn't have a good one. I tested it a bit and notice once it wasn't spinning. Agitator is working just fine. I manually turned the drum while it was trying to spin and it would start moving a bit and then sometimes take off spinning.
Suggestions? |

Remove the outer casing, the pump and motor. Turn the tranny coupler clockwise till the basket starts to turn. If very hard to turn with one hand, you have dragging brake shoes and a bad clutch.
Also, shine a lite in the tub and check for something stuck in the tub.

I was able to take off the cover and motor and did find it tough to turn and when i did the drum did not move.
Suggestions? Is this something i can fix myself or should i hire? I am not afraid of a little work. |

If you have dragging brake shoes go to my article in the general talk section, page 5 "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes". You may need the special spanner wrench for the drive block nut that holds the spin basket in place.

You can go to www.applianceaid.com for part breakdowns Also, you may need a new clutch if it is slipping.

I have taken it apart. I wish there was a way to see if a part is bad. I am going on your recommendations with my symptoms i have and order a new clutch. I will attempt to find a part number. I appreciate your help since local people say they can't tell unless they look at it. They were not very helpful for a guy who is trying to fix it himself.

A new clutch will not solve your problem if you have bad brake shoes or something caught in the tub. If your clutch spring is weak, you can shim it up with some washers.

Not sure how to tell if the springs are weak, and not sure how to tell brake shoes are bad as well. Suggestions?
Something else i noticed and dont know if this is normal. there is still some water in the plastic part that surrounds the tub. Is there always water in the bottom of tub after the tub does a spin cycle? The water isn't showing up in the tub, you can hear it swishing when moving the tub. I do not see anything in the plastic tub but does this mean maybe there is something inside plugging the tub. Last edited by ssweeney : 06-21-2008 at 10:43 AM. Reason: thought of something else |
