Top Loader GE Select washer purchased new in 2006. Very Loud during spin cycle .. sounds like metal on metal. I read other issues where people wrote about a grinding noise. To me sounds like metal on metal, so loud during final spin, you can't have a conversation because of the noise. I'm ready to make the washer part of landfill, but my husband is curious, if this is worth fixing. Everything else in washer seems to work fine. Any comments or suggestions?
Thank you
Debbie

Debbie,

Very likely the problem is a bad central bearing. This job is not very simple and requires a special wrench. If you can do it yourself, then it can be worth to fix it. If you have to hire somebody, it can be very costly.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for General Electric S5200E1WW Washer | AppliancePartsPros.com

for your response....I went a purchased a new machine from the scratch and dent store...great deal!, but after reading your reply, my husband will fix, (I think he was mostly excited about just buying a new(special) wrench..lol) and we are giving to our daughter ...

Thanks again

Debbie
