Unhappy Whirlpool tub won't turn trans leaking oil
Model Number: LXR7144EQ2   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

The agitator turns fine, but the tub will not turn, and it's making an awful noise because the trans is trying to turn the tub, but it won't budge. I tried to move it with my hand, and it won't budge, like it's locked up. I propped it up and the transmission is also leaking some oil. Should I bother trying to fix it? Is it the transmission, or maybe the tub bearings?

Stick a lite in the spin basket to check for something logged in the tub.
If ok, pull off outer case, remove the pump and motor and try to turn the tranny coupler clockwise. If it will not turn, you probably have stuck brake shoes. Post results.
