my washer went through the wash,rinse,and most of the spin cycle.It then started to vibrateand make a loud rubbing noise.Ther was about 1" of water left in the tub.When I rotated the cycle switch to spin it makes that rubbing noise.What could cause this?

It can be the pump bearing starting to fail; or it could be the thrust bearing, not allowing a full release of the brake. Pull the belt off and see if you get that sound as you spin the pump pulley by hand.
