I just ordered a new timer knob as the old one broke apart. There is still a black piece of plastic with four holes that seems to be still stuck on the shaft of the timer control. I can't seem to remove this piece so I can press in the new knob. This same black piece is affixed properly in the new knob, but it broke away from the old knob and is still stuck on the shaft. I don't want to force anything. Since it doesn't slide off easily I assume there is some sort of release mechanism but can't find it. Any ideas? I know this should be simple, but I'm afraid of breaking something and turning a simple repair into something expensive. Thanks, Doug

You will need to pry off the dial that is behind the knob, the busted piece should come out with it. Then look at the back of the timer, it will have printed info on knob replacemt.

Thanks for reply. I kept wiggling the little piece that was stuck on and it finally pulled off. The new knob slipped right into place. It does seem it is a poor design as the little plastic pieces that the knob attaches to seem like they could break easily.
