my problem with this washer is that it does not agitate. a couple of weeks ago it started up when I took off for a couple of hours, and when I came back, there was a burning rubber smell in the house. I ran throughout the house trying to figure out what was burning, and narrowed it down to the washer. Apparently, the motor pulley was working fine, but the belt that goes to the big pulley for the transmission was not spinning, in turn causing the belt to smoke. I know this; when the washer is set to agitate, it does not. There is noise, motor runs, but belt does not turn, it just starts to smoke. When the washer is set to spin, there is no problem. The belt now spins the opposite direction with ease ( as opposed to when it set to agitate, the belt is very hard to move) and drains the water. I took the washer apart and cannot see anything wrong ( but then again I'm not sure what to look for) or broken. Can it be the belt is bad? I took the cover plate of off the transmission and revealed the spline and gear, I then turned the big pulley in the direction that would signify the agitator working and it is hard.I then did it in the opposite direction and it is easy, this direction would signify the spin cycle. please help.

You can either rebuild your transmission, or replace it. Here's the part number: Part number: AP4373301

I'm not sure how "hard" it is to turn in the wash direction, I wouild suggest you try a couple of other things first... Check Diagram 1 for your model # and look at the Motor Plate and Motor Mount. These must slide back and forth. if for some reason there is an obstruction or if it needs service, make sure it does slide a little grease and cleaning may help. If it is stuck, the motor pulley will spin on the belt and burn it. Another thing is the belt tensioner, check it to see if it is worn out. Cheapest check: install new belts for under $40.
