Default Estate Whirlpool not agitating, making running noise
Model Number: ETW4300sqo   Brand: Estate   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My Whirlpool Estate stopped agitating. It spins and runs through the cycles, but when it gets to the agitation phase it makes a humming click noise but doesn't agitate. I followed instructions here, replaced the dogs, and that didn't change anything. What do I check next? I'm not mechanically inclined so it took hours for me to just follow instructions and change the dogs. Help please!

It could be a broken motor coupling. Part number: AP3963893

Thanks. Is there a way to test if it's that or do you just replace it and see that way? And is there step-by-step instructions to replace that?

A quick check can be made by pulling the machine out a distance from the wall enough to tilt it back so it'll stay. Then get under it with a good light, and look up between the motor and the gearbox. (Unplug the machine first). Spin the motor any way you can and see if there are any inconsistencies in the coupler assembly. Also look for broken (off white) plastic or black rubber shavings directly beneath the motor.

Default replaced coupling, still does not agitate

Ok, I replaced the coupling, put it all back together and tried it. It's doing the exact same thing, makes a humming click noise when it should be agitating, but it does spin on the spin cycle.

What do I do next?
