whirlpool washer spin problem

Washer spin cycle not working, only works if I manually get tub spinning first. From looking at other posts it sounds like a bad clutch. Going to order clutch kit. Do I have to remove the spanner nut to get the shaft down through the bottom of tub to access the clutch? and if so do I need a special tool?

Yes, you do have to remove the spanner nut and the inner tub. It's better to use a special spanner wrench.

You may want to check the drive block and th brakes as well.
